Player Talent Scout: Luka Romero

Posted on 05th July 2020

Luka Romero Bezzana became the youngest player in La Liga history when he came on in the 83rd minute as Mallorca lost to Real Madrid.

Aged just 15 and 219 days, Romero broke an 80 year record as he made his first steps in the professional game at the Santiago Bernabéu, one of the most iconic stadiums in world football.

After the return from lockdown, Romero was named as a substitute in both Mallorca’s previous games against Villarreal and Leganés, but with the club in a relegation scrap he stayed on the bench.

Romero was born in Mexico but he has represented Argentina at youth level, dubbed the Mexican Messi by the Spanish press, left-footed Romero shares the low centre of gravity, incredible technique and constant dribbling of Lionel Messi but the comparisons are unwelcome for one so young.

Barcelona have already tried to sign Romero at the age of seven, but his family were reluctant to move to Catalunya at the time, and it would be no surprise if Barca and other top clubs came calling for a player who has played at such a high level at such a young age.
