Player Talent Scout: Brenner

One of the breakout stars of the Brasileirão this season is 20 year-old São Paulo forward Brenner Souza da Silva who has scored 16 goals in 25 apps in all competitions since Brazilian football returned in August.

Brenner got his first taste of senior football in 2017 when he made a handful of appearances for São Paulo, scoring his first goal against Bahia on the final day of the 2017 season. The 2018 season followed a similar pattern with most of his appearances coming from the bench.

Last season, Brenner moved on loan to Fluminense but failed to make much of an impression, failing to score in his 5 appearances in Rio. This season, however, he has returned to São Paulo and exploded.

Brenner endeared himself to São Paulo fans by scoring a late winner from the bench in the Derby Paulista against Corinthians on matchday 6, and since then he has gone from strength to strength. Brenner became a regular starter in October, and went on an incredible run of 13 goals in 11 games, including five doubles.

Brenner is a quick technical striker with great movement and finishing, and it is more a matter of when rather than if Brenner makes the move to Europe, with Arsenal, Lazio, Ajax, Juventus, Milan and PSG all linked with the forward.
