Can a players contract run out unexpectedly

do you have to renew every contract when its on the last year or do you get a warning or does the assistant manager sort it for you and if you dont renew what happens then does the player put himself on the transfer list ?

Yeah, if you dont renew the contract, the player will assume its finished and request a transfer.

You'll get a warning at the end of the contact so you have time to renew it then, if you so choose.
