Player Talent Scout: Youssoufa Moukoko

Posted on 20th November 2020

All eyes will be on Hertha’s Olympiastadion in Berlin on Saturday evening to see if Youssoufa Moukoko, Borussia Dortmund’s wunderkind makes his Bundesliga debut. If he plays, he will become the youngest ever Bundesliga player.

The Cameroon born forward turns 16 today which allows him to be included in the BVB matchday squad for the first time. He is no stranger to the limelight, having signed a lucrative deal with Nike as a 14 year-old back in 2019.

Moukoko joined Dortmund’s youth teams from St. Pauli and has consistently scored goals for fun while playing in older categories. He made his Under 17 Bundesliga debut aged 13, scoring an astonishing 90 goals in 56 games.

He moved up to the Under 19 Bundesliga aged 14, and continued his ridiculous goal scoring form, netting an almost unbelievable 47 in 25 games. In 2019 he became the youngest player to appear and score in the UEFA Youth League, showing he can also do it on the continental stage.

He has been fast tracked into Dortmund’s first team squad, training with the seniors since January. Aside from his quite obvious finishing ability, Moukoko is strong, quick and technically excellent with exceptional off the ball movement. Although left footed, he can finish with either foot and can operate as a striker or winger.

Whether Lucian Favre chooses to throw Moukoko straight in this weekend remains to be seen, but all the signs are that this child prodigy has all the tools required to become one of the best players in the world.
