Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai scored a glorious free kick to set Salzburg on their way to a 5-0 win over Austria Lustenau in the OFB Cup Final on Friday night.

Having spent his youth career at various clubs in his homeland, Szoboszlai made the move across the border in 2017 and immediately became a star for Salzburg’s feeder club FC Liefering in Austria’s Erste Liga, scoring 10 times in 33 games.

His performances earned a call-up to the Salzburg first team for their final league match of the season against Austria Wien and he also became a regular for the Hungary Under 21 team that season, making his debut in a win against Germany a month before his 17th birthday.

Szoboszlai was promoted to the Salzburg first team permanently in December 2018, and went on to make his full Hungarian international debut in March 2019.

Deployed as a central, attacking or left sided midfielder, the 19 year-old playmaker has been likened to both Toni Kroos and Paul Pogba. Technically superb with a fantastic passing range, he also posseses an incredible engine which is a feature of the best Salzburg graduates.

Salzburg has been used a stepping stone for many great players in recent years with the likes of Naby Keita, Sadio Mane, Dayot Upamecano, Konrad Laimer and more recently Erling Håland and Takumi Minamino all making their names at the Austrian Champions.

Szoboszlai could be the next to move on having being linked with Roma, Lazio, Inter, AC Milan, Liverpool and Arsenal ahead of a potential move at the end of the current season.
