Celebrating 15 Years of Soccer Manager Worlds

Posted on 04th June 2020

This September we will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of Soccer Manager Worlds.

It all started when three brothers and close friends decided to make an online football management game that they’d enjoy playing themselves. The concept was based on the traditional play-by-mail football games but with elements of different management games they’d played on the PC when growing up.

This resulted in the creation of Soccer Manager Worlds (SMW), an online multiplayer football management game. The game was a simple concept. Turn based with two league games and one cup game each week on set days. You built up your club and competed against your friends in a unique multiplayer game.

We launched the very first Game World, English Championship 1, in September 2005 to family and friends. It proved to be very popular and as the game spread by word of mouth we created additional Game Worlds.

One of the things that we did was listen to the community. It became a community driven game. A lot of the new features and improvements that were introduced came from our community.

We’ve been speaking to our community once again over the past several weeks to establish what needs addressing in the game and what they’d like to see going forward.

This work will be broken down into 3 stages:

  1. Address the issues raised by our community.
  2. Launch a new app.
  3. Introduce new features and improvements.

Stage No1 will focus on the points raised by our community. These include the following:

  • Soccer Wiki/player attributes.
  • Squad limit and sizes.
  • Player concerns.
  • The user interface.
  • Matchday experience.
  • SMFA/cheating.
  • Stadium building/development and club infrastructure.
  • Fan bases.
  • Greater flexibility in the transfer market/finances/worth of money.
  • Additional options for Custom Game Worlds and greater control.
  • Community – central to some Game Worlds.

We will only move on to stage No2 & No3 once we are happy that No1 has been completed. We believe that this first stage is the most important prior to introducing any new features to the game.

During each phase we will continue to liaise with our community and act on their feedback.

Part of the celebration for our 15 year anniversary will also include the launch of an exclusive one off Game World, Elite Championship 1, in September.

This Game World will be on the blockchain and has been developed in partnership with XAYA.

Last week we announced that this Game World was now in Beta and you can read all about the announcement here.

If you’d like to register your interest for Beta, you can join the mailing list as well as read full details about the game, how it works and what’s special about the Game World at Soccer Manager Elite.
