Player Ratings
From Soccer Manager Wiki
Within Soccer Manager each player is given one rating within a scale of 60 to 99. A player will increase or decrease in rating depending on his form in real life, and is not affected by how he performs for you in Soccer Manager.

Player Ratings
Each player is allocated one rating reflecting his real-life ability. This rating is based between 60 and 99 (with 99 being the highest rated). Our team of researchers have allocated each individual player on the database with a rating based on their current real-life ability.
- 60-70 - A player who has just started his career or playing non-league football;
- 70-75 - A player who has just started his career or playing in the fourth tier within the major world leagues;
- 75-80 - A player who has proved himself on a regular basis in the third tier within the major world leagues or 'minor' leagues;
- 80-85 - A player who has proved himself on a regular basis in the second tier within the major world leagues or 'lesser' leagues;
- 85-90 - A player who has proved himself on a regular basis in one of the major world leagues or excelled in a 'lesser' league;
- 90-95 - A player who has proved his class on a regular basis in one of the major world leagues or for a top ranked national tean or on the continential stage;
- 95+ - A player who has proved his class both on the domestic and continential or international stage.
What Are Player Ratings?
One of the most exciting features in Soccer Manager is the player rating system whereby players ratings change based on real life performances. Players ratings are reviewed and updated by our team of specialist football researchers based on their performances in real life. You
will need to use your football knowledge to find up and coming young players whose ratings increase. Can you find the next world class player and snap him up before he becomes a star? Be careful though players ratings can go down as well as up!
When Do Changes Take Place?
Rating changes take place on a weekly basis within a 'Ratings Schedule' which covers the majority of the world league’s and runs throughout the year. Please note that any player rating changes which happen can be displayed within your setup at any time over a 24 hour period and this will vary from setup to setup.
What Can Influence a Rating?
Each week our team of researchers will assess players performance from certain leagues (based on their performance over a significant period of time) to decide whether they warrant an increase or decrease in rating.
The main factors that contribute to a down-rating include:
- Long term injury;
- Serious dip in form;
- Dropping down a league level;
- Lack of regular first team football;
- Long term suspension from the game.
The main factors that contribute to an up-rating inlcude:
- Individual awards and accolades;
- Domestic honours;
- Continental honours;
- International honours;
- Domestic experience;
- Continental experience;
- International experience;
- Reaching the next stage in their career (e.g proving themselves in a higher division or at a continental/international level).
Please Note: The majority of players will not have their rating changed unless they fall into the above categories. Also players will not have their rating changed purely on playing time (minutes accumulated) unless they fall into the above categories.
Ratings Schedule
Players within the Soccer Manager database are reviewed on a 'Summer' and 'Main' schedule split into countries (with their respective league(s) included).
Summer Leagues
The majority of the worlds summer leagues start in spring, and usually finish in autumn. One of the main reasons for this format for (certain) European countries is due to the cold-climate, and other countries have decided on this format for other reasons.
Leagues which come under the Summer' League umbrella will be reviewed twice per season, and any player(s) we think needs reviewing outside this, will be looked at individually.
First Change – June/July.
Second Change – November/December.
- Section 1: Belarus, Russia & Ukraine;
- Section 2: Australia, China, Japan & Korea;
- Section 3: Finland, Iceland, Norway & Sweden;
- Section 4: Columbia, Ecuador, Paraguay & USA;
- Section 5: Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Rep Ireland & South Africa.
Main Leagues
The majority of the worlds main leagues start late summer, and usually finish in late spring.
Leagues which come under the 'Main' umbrella will be reviewed from August through to May, on a continuing cycle, and any player(s) we think need reviewing outside this, will be looked at individually.
- Section 1: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru & Uruguay;
- Section 2: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru & Uruguay;
- Section 3: Bosnia, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia & Macedonia;
- Section 4: Bulgaria, Hungary, Poland & Romania;
- Section 5: Austria, Denmark, Czech Rep, Germany, Netherlands & Slovakia;
- Section 6: Austria, Denmark, Czech Rep, Germany, Netherlands & Slovakia;
- Section 7: Belgium, France & Switzerland;
- Section 8: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales;
- Section 9: England, Scotland, Northern Ireland & Wales;
- Section 10: Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Malta & Turkey;
- Section 11: Portugal & Spain;
- Section 12: Italy.
Please note that some leagues are spread over two sections (due to the sheer number of clubs involved), and the leagues which fall inside that area can be reviewed in either section.
How Long Does Each Section Take to Review?
Each section usually takes seven to fourteen days to review, and we will update the 'Player Time Table' as well as the SM Blog once we move on to a new section.
Which Players Are Reviewed?
Only players currently playing in their respective league will be reviewed in the relevant section of the Rating Changes Schedule. Also a players rating can be reviewed at any time during the section(s) his respective league is being reviewed. An example of this being if a French national is playing within the Italian leagues - his rating will only be looked at when the Italian Leagues are reviewed within the Rating Changes Schedule and not when the French Leagues are reviewed.
International Tournaments
A players performance during any international tournament like the European Football Championship, Copa América, African Cup of Nations, Gold Cup, Asian Cup and the World Cup will not have an immediate impact on his current rating. His performance during the tournament will be taken into consideration along with his domestic club form when his respective league is next reviewed in the Rating Changes Schedule.
Please Note: The SM Researchers decision regarding a players individual rating is final.
