Budget Planning
You will need to keep a check on your clubs finances as this will help you budget for the season. You can do this by viewing your clubs balance sheet on your finance page. This will show your clubs income and expenditure which is broken down on the balance sheet on the right with a summary of the transactions at the bottom of the screen on the right. On the left is the running total for the current season. Your budget will primarily be based around two main factors, wages and transfers, and you will need to ensure you monitor these properly to ensure that your club does not go into debt.
Wages
The wages for each player in Soccer Manager are calculated using the players ratings. A players wage is only increased when the player is offered a new contract and has had a recent rating increase. Player Ratings are the most important factor for a players salary. The wages for your team are paid each turn regardless if you have a match or not. It is important that you keep an eye on your teams 'Total Wages' on your squad page as this will help you plan your budget. It is advisable that you keep your 'Total Wages' expenditure under what you receive for current 'Total Income' per turn to ensure your club does not go into debt.
Transfers
Most managers will want to buy/sell players in order to create a squad in their image or to fit a certain style of play, and there are several options on the 'Transfer Market' page which you can select in relation to transfers. However it is important that you keep an eye on your clubs 'Current Balance' on your finance page as this will help you plan your transfer budget. If you want to strengthen your squad and finances are tight or your club is in debt, you could place a player on the transfer list to generate additional income. Likewise your club could generate additional expenditure from transfers, and it is important that you do not overstretch your finances when trying to improve your squad.
Debt
Successful budget planning is essential in ensuring that your club does not go into debt. If you successfully plan your transfer and wage budgets then this will help towards some success within the game. However if you ignore your transfer and wage budgets then your club could end up in debt. Even though your chairman will not sack you for taking your club into debt, he will place a transfer ban on any new signings, and will only allow you to sell players to help reduce the debt.
Balance Sheet
Each Turn your clubs income and expenditure is broken down on the balance sheet on the right with a summary of the transactions at the bottom of the screen on the right. On the left is the running total for the current season. You do not have direct control over your clubs finances apart from dealings in the transfer market which will either credit or debit your current balance.
