Cheating

Cheating can be a big problem in any online game. It gives someone an unfair advantage over somebody else, and due to this we are taking a tough stance on this.

[edit] Terms of Use

In SM there are strict rules regarding cheating in the form of the SM Code of Conduct, and this forms part of the Terms and Conditions. However, just because we have rules regarding this issue, we can not force everyone to follow them, and there is a minority who flaunt the rules. Due to this it gives the minority an unfair advantage over everyone else. This does not mean that we give up on them, as eventually they are found out, and action is taken against their account.

[edit] Responsibility of the SMFA

However, due to this minority we now take a tougher stance against in-game cheating. It is the responsibility of the SMFA to penalise violators of the rules, and to do this they now have two options for those managers caught and found guilty. Dependent on the severity of what they have done, this will determine which option the SMFA choose:

  • Option #1 - Reduce their reputation, remove the offending club from their account, ban them from entering the setup again, and if applicable reverse any illegitimate transfers;
  • Option #2 - Exclusion from the game as the Terms and Conditions state: “We reserve the right to remove or suspend users at any time for any reason and without a refund of previously purchased items”.

If any action is taken against your account via Option #1 then you will receive a private message stating the reason why your reputation has been reduced. Also in addition to this your ‘Online/Offline Status’ icon will appear in red, and you will also be banned from making any transfer offers for a period of 7 days for any clubs under your control.

If any action is taken against your account via Option #2 then you will receive a message when you try and access your account informing you that you have been suspended.

Please Note: If any action is taken against your account via Option #1 then the next time you violate the rules then Option #2 will automatically be enforced.

[edit] Appeal Against SMFA Decision

A manager if they so wish is able to appeal against this decision by contacting SM Support and if their account is suspended by emailing support@soccermanager.com with the subject ‘Account Suspended’. The SMFA could make a mistake during their investigation, and if they do then this will be corrected. However, if you appeal against the SMFAs decision and you lose, then they will take further action against your account.

[edit] Suspicious Activity?

The SMFA find those who flaunt the rules on a regular basis due to the anti-cheating system, however the whole community has a responsibility as well to keep a watchful eye for suspicious activities of any kind. If you believe a manager has broken the Terms and Conditions then you will need to contact SM Support so that the SMFA can investigate your suspicions. Some examples of in-game cheating can be found within the Code of Conduct, and also below:

  • Illegal transfers - An illegal transfer can be recognised by a number of things. When a manager has bought or sold a player for a silly price e.g. a £1 million rated player is bought/sold for over 3-4 times the amount.
  • Multiple accounts - A multiple account can sometimes be recognised straight away, e.g. The managers have exactly the same names, or the managers log in straight after each other.
  • Abusive Private Messages - If a manager has been rude to you for no particular reason you can block them from sending any more messages to you, if they are extremely abusive you can report them directly to SM Support.
