Help With New Contracts?

Hi, one of my players has recently had his rating reduced from 75 to 70, as you can imagine this was bad news however the silver lining is that I heard if I renew his contract his wage should go down and reducing wages is something i'm trying. The problem is when I click on my player there is no "New Contract" part on his profile that there is with most of my players. Why could this be? He is also not my only player with the problem but the only one which I want a new contract for. He currently has a 4 year contract.

you can not renew a players contract if you b0ought him in that same season. and you can only renew a contract once a season.
