What is More Satisfying in a Gold Championship?

July 23rd, 2008 by SM Dev (ste)

After reading through the comments left within this article I though I would ask the questoin of: What is more satisfying for you in a Gold Championship - gaining success with a so called big club or a small club?

Definetly a smaller club, as you get a feeling of achieving something massive with a small club as with a big club its expected

    Small club for me.

What is the long term goal for the big clubs? Winning the same cup/league every season? I like working towards the short-term goals I can set myself in small clubs.

eg. Season 1: Get a full squad with a reserve team possibly for cup/shield games.
Season 2: Push for promotion (if not achieved in season 1)
Season 3: Avoid relegation (if promoted previous season)

With the oppertunity to improve the squad all the time, its much more fun. How are you going to improve your squad if you already have Ronaldo, Messi etc?

I would like to manage tottenham who i support in a gold league im not to bothered on having barca or man u. but i love football and i love tottenham.

im not gready i would like to manage the team i support in the gold leagues.

thats not to much to ask, but it seems some managers get all the best teams. not just one but several and thats not fair on other managers.

Gotta agree with Sib. If you won the league with say Man Utd, it’s hardly a massive achievement considering you have the likes of Rooney, Ferdinand, Ronaldo, Vidic, Tevez, etc. Whereas as a smaller team, if you can knock a bigger team out of the cup, or win promotion, or fight and just survive relegation, it feels a lot more satisfying.

Its definitly, without a doubt, SMALL TEAMS !!

It gives you more enthuiasm in my experience and the achievements mean alot more. Turning your Div 4 side into a secure Div 2 outfit is a hard thing to do and i think managers should get alot more reconigised for doing great things with small teams.

Ex: I got Catania (Team i took with 24 players, no1 over 87) to finish 8th at the end of the season with 2 90+ players.

As i said, im surprised that small teams with alot of potential dont go as quick as Valencia…

    Small Club for me as-well.

My 2 favorite teams are Dynamo Dresden (GC5). When i took over them they only had 9 players in the squad. I have now built up a squad and they are 3rd in the German Division 2. All they need now is a stadium extension ;)

My other favorite team has to be my Hertha BSC Berlin in GC10. They are top of the league, and have just done the double over Arsenal in the SMFA Cip (4-0 and 1-0). They are also in the semis of the German Cup.

There again I do like managing big teams as-well. I can’t say I’m not enjoying being 20 points clear in the league in GC13 with Real madrid.

Definately a smaller league club. I’ve only had one ‘big club’ in a GC and that was Barcelona in GC3, and I gave up within two months as I got bored with them.

My biggest success in a Gold Championship were Hamilton Academials in GC7, won the Scottish Cup whilst knocking both Rangers and Celtic out en-route to the final

small club for me too acheiving success with them is far greater, but some managers get a club in every gold setup and most of them are pretty decent sides and they get barcelona manchester united and liverpool every time. which isn’t fair for us other gold members, every gold member should have a even chance of getting the ‘Big Clubs’

i think that winning any league in a gold championship is good no matter who the club is but it is better winning with a smaller club.

Both are enjoyable, but I personally get more satisfaction from taking the smaller sides to new heights (in any setup, not just golds)

I’ve won everything in sight with Inter in GC4 more than once (and I am still motivated to win them all and break SM records)

    but

I would class taking tiny Empoli into the Champions Cup in GC9 as one of my best GC achievements and I am just as keen on managing the 4 or 5 smaller teams I have as I am on Inter.

    It’s all good :-)

Winning Champions League, With Whatever Team You Have, Many Considered Top SM Managers Have Never Done It So Its The Pinacle of Anyones Career On SM,

    CONT… {Sorry}

    I Control Celtic,Arsenal,Lyon,Atletico Mad,Torino,Drogheda In G’S

So Decent Mix, Will Have To Take Over Another Minnow In Top League To Test Myself Further..

    Managing The Club You Support I Think Is A Must.. Whoever That May Be {Still Hava Do That, With Shels}

  • 13. James McHugh  |  July 24th, 2008 at 6:31 pm

I think definately a smaller team!

I took a coventry team who were in debt, had no decent players and were bottom of the league to the division 1 in english championship 147 and it felt as good as any thing!

    ccfc till i die!

    Mix of both

Small is better in general..i was staying with a cousin a few weeks back…and hes a GM (im not)…In charge of atletico Madrid, Ac Milan, Juventus and club America…his brothers account is in charge of Arsenal and Roma…I tried all their different teams while i was there and found it much more interesting fighting for a tight Mexican league with my 2 strikers both being 15 (Suarez and Galvan), and my best player injured, then dominating a league as ac Milan with no competition….its just plain boring!

  • 18. Jack Furness  |  July 28th, 2008 at 8:02 pm

a bit of both. Mostly a smaller club. My bagor city team, i built up the team and i beat fenerbache. that was my most satisfying result on sm. But with a big cvlub, if you win a league, you know you have played your players to their full potential.

i dont like the new setup for getting into the new gold championships. go back to the old way. i think it is ridiculous to sit around on that day and freaking wait to get a decent team. i thought it i was fair, and actually fun the other way. it was cool to just see who’s internet acted the quickest and who got the luckiest in getting a top tier team. anyways. just my opionion.

  • 20. Harry  |  September 3rd, 2008 at 11:32 am

I think a middle team like reading, hull city, torino, atalanta, monaco…………….

  • 21. adi  |  October 7th, 2008 at 3:54 pm

i think s middle team ex: D la Coruna, Zaragoza, Udinese etc is more satisfying then too big too small team. Too big means to easy, too small means to much time but a middle team means u know good tactics.

  • 22. Ahmed  |  November 8th, 2008 at 12:30 pm

But you cant say having a big club isn’t a challenge though. I have arsenal and when i got them they had mostly nmf players and I had to deal with it and now they’re doing better then ever. It is more satisfying to have a smaller team and go high in a division, but you have to remember that big clubs still have a challenge.

I’m not a Gold Member, but i have three teams:

-Manchester United-Took over after managing Ajax, and i’ve spetn 2/3 of a £300 million budget-not my favourite team (i think that might be because i support the ‘pool)

    - Inter Milan-new team in a new setup, enjoying this setup because my dad and brother are in it as well, i quite like this team, but not as much as my favourite

-Cadiz-I amazing found this club unmanaged and 6th with 20 million to spend in SC17. After roughly 5 games, i’ve already had job offers from Mallorca and Deportivo, loving my team, especially with Harewood and Zaki upfront :p
