Euro 2008 Top Scorers - David Healy

November 18th, 2007 by SM Dev (ste)

Congratulations to Northern Ireland marksman David Healey who looks set to finish the Euro 2008 qualifiers as top goal soccer.

The record scoring Irishman (with 33 goals to date), now hold another new record for most goals scored in any European Championship qualifying phase with 13 goals, and he still has a game to play against the Spanish next week.

Northern Ireland still have an outside chance to qualify for next years finals in Austria & Switzerland, and this is largely thanks to the goal scoring exploits of Healey.

The Irishman opened his account with a stunning hat-trick in Northern Ireland’s shock 3-2 win over Spain in Belfast. This was followed with the winner against Latvia, and another hat-trick against Liechtenstein. Healey then scored twice in Northern Ireland’s 2-1 win over Sweden, and then two more against Liechtenstein. Healey then scored a penalty against Iceland taking his total to 12 in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, equalling Davor Šuker’s record of 12 goals in the Euro Championship qualifying phase.

Last night Healey broke Šuker’s European Football Championship qualifying campaign record, when he scored in Northern Ireland’s 2-1 win over Denmark, taking his total for the campaign to 13.

Healey was modest after Ireland’s win over Denmark, and his record breaking goal stating: “I’m just proud to wear the jersey. I didn’t really want to talk about it.”

Taken in Context of Norn Ire’s Strenght that a ridiculos amount of goals so far

    David Healy 60 (33) Over 1 In 2
    Michael Own 88 (40) just under 1 In 2

Consider England Go Into every Qaulifying Group as Number 1 Seeds & Norn Ire Go IN usually as 2nd last seeds & the Suply Own gets compared to Healy is substantial

HE DESERVS 90 IN SM NOT EVEN (89) 90 (I.MH.O)

Healy is class, he scores that many goals with a team with so little creativity except for Gillespie is an immense achievement. I f he was in a decent Premiership team he would get the league recognition as well.

    Well Done Healy
