Game Worlds: New Templates
August 14th, 2007 by SM Dev (ste)
It is that time of year again when the various winter leagues kick off, and it doesn’t seem two minutes since my wife was rejoicing the end of the 2006/07 seasons! Unfortunately for her I had to contend myself with the FIFA U-2o World Cup and the Copa America leading up to the start of the new seasons (and also parts of the Gold Cup & Asian Cup).
Each summer SM designs new templates for the English and World Game Worlds, and as always the latter turns out the be the most hardest. The English Game Worlds are the easiest as we just follow the real life leagues, but the World Worlds are a different story.
Last summer after discussion on the forum, we decided to introduce some clubs to add variation, like Urawa Red Diamonds, Al-Alhy, Esperance de Tunis, Sporting Cristal, Steau Bucuresti, Partizan Beograd etc. All of these clubs are so called giants within their own country, steeped in history, and showered with trophies.
Unfortunately the new templates we created had a mixed response, and only a certain type of manager was willing to try and take the likes of Legia Warszawa up through the leagues. This resulted in the bottom two divisions being sparsely populated, and resulted in some game worlds only being half full.
This summer we have decided to try and include clubs which would have a universal appeal (so you will see now Legia Warszawa’s, Sporting Cristal’s et al). To try and make each new game world as appealing as possible to prospective managers, we have included more clubs from the main world leagues, including the Premiership, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.
We have also tried to balance the clubs from those leagues with the most popular clubs from the main world nations, and you will see giants such as Portuguese trio FC Porto, Sporting, and Benfica in the divisions, as well as Latin heavy-weights River Plate, Sao Paulo, Boca Juniors, America etc.
We know that the new templates will not please everyone, as people will ask why there is no Salzburg, Dinamo Bucuresti, Red Star Belgrade etc, but the stark truth is that only a minority of people are willing to take the challenge of managing them.
The first World Setup to be created with the new template was WC 847, and it is currently 92.5% full. Hopefully we have found the right mix this season, and any future game worlds which are created will be as equally as full.
If you would like to view the new templates, then on the main menu go to ‘SM GAME INFO’, and then select ‘Game World Types’.
