Talent Scout: Future stars from the Balkans
February 20th, 2008 by SM Dev (ste)
The Balkans have produced some memorable players over the years in Davor Šuker, Zvonimir Boban, Robert Prosinečki, Predrag Mijatović to name but a few. Most recently players like Luka Modrić, Vedran Ćorluka, Goran Pandev, Dejan Stanković to name but a few have emerged from the region.
The majority of people have heard of young stars from southeastern Europe in Ivan Rakitić, Nikola Kalinić, Miralem Sulejmani, Gojko Kačar, Stevan Jovetić, Sotiris Ninis etc, but the question is who are the future stars from the region that you have not heard of?
The following players are touted as future stars from southeastern Europe, are all still playing for their local clubs, and it is only a matter of time before clubs from the West (or even Russia) come sniffing:
- CB Igor Prahic
(age 20 years) 80 rated at Varteks Varazdin; - CB Domagoj Vida
(age 18 years) 78 rated at Osijek; - LM Dušan Tadić
(age 19 years) 83 rated at FK Vojvodina; - LM/W Nikolay Dimitrov
(age 20 years) 83 rated at Levski Sofia; - RM/W Lachezar Baltanov
(age 19 years) 76 rated at Levski Sofia; - CM Anas Sharbini
(age 20 years) 83 rated at HNK Rijeka; - CM Zoran Milovac
(age 19 years) 75 rated at OFK Beograd; - CM/RM Elin Dimoutsos
(age 19 years) 82 rated at Panathinaikos; - AM/W Jahmir Hyka
(age 19 years) 80 rated at SK Tirana; - CF Kostas Mitroglou
(age 19 years) 78 rated at Olympiakos; - F Andrija Kaluđerović
(age 20 years) 82 rated at OFK Beograd.
The above players are all current U21 internationals for their respective countries, and one or two of them have won their first full senior cap. If they all live up to the early hype and reach their potential, then there is no reason why they can not all hit 85+ within the next 12 months.
Please Note: Usually I give some background information on each player, but due to the number of players mentioned it will become a very long article, and also it would be nice if you actually researched the players mentioned (instead of just taking my word as gospel).
