Messages: Yeovil Shock EC9 With Cup Triumph

August 19th, 2007 by SM Dev (ste)

It is not everyday that a small club claims a major honour within SM, but in EC9 Yeovil bucked the trend:

I took over Yeovil in Ec9 knowing that I probably wouldn’t win the league, so my main focus was on the Cup.

In the first round we were drawn against Kidderminster, possibly the worst team within the setup, and we cruised past them 2-0. The second round was more interesting, as it turned out to be a derby against Bristol Rovers, which Yeovil won the bragging rights to. We won with a 3-2 victory, thanks to loan signing Phil Jevons.

After wining the derby, I were really looking forward to the thrid round, hoping to get a big team, but ended up with Mansfield - which was good in a way. We won the clash 1-0 with 10 players after Arran Davies was sent off early in the match.

In the fourth round I were finally drawn against a big club in the form of Fulham. They played a lot of youth and reserve player, and this backfired as we came out comfortable 3-1 winners. I couldn’t understand why he fielded as weakened side?

The quarter finals saw the showdown of the only non Division 1 clubs left in the Cup - Yeovil and Brentford. I missed my key goalscorer in the League and Cup, Jevons. To counter this I agreed a deal with Man Utd to loan Pato for the remainder of the season just before the game, but I wasn’t confident and had a major change in relation to tactics.

What I believe was due to the tactics was a 4-0 win, and 2 goals for Pato. I was impressed, and also used the formation and tactics in most league games.

The 1/2 finals welcomed Man City to Huish Park, but after the Brentford win, I was confidently of victory. Man City sat 18th in Division 1, with their top striker rated 87. The game was a lot tighter than I thought, at 3-3, and I was very worried due to watching the game on the score centre.

It didn’t show the pens so I went to look at the Match Report, but I couldn’t do it, so I asked my brother too. He read it slowly - Yeovil scored, City scored, it was 4-4 and we missed, I was flabbergasted Jevons was the man to. It went down to City midfielder Shaun Wright Phillips, he missed and I went mad, even though the game wasn’t won yet. Eventually we won on penalties 6-5 and I was ecstatic.

We had the mighty Liverpool in the fina,l but that was the least of my worries. We lost four games I a row in the league, but thankfully we won the game leading to the final 6-1.

Liverpool played with an average team rating of 90, and they played awful. Yeovil won 4-2, and Liverpool ended the match with 9 players. Yeovil had defied all odds, and triumphed in the Cup. As well as winning a first major honour, we also picked up a hefty £9,000,000, which goes a long way with a club of Yeovil’s size.

Jesus Christ man! How good is soccermanager in general :| If you get the chance go on English Championship 866 … because I think you should know as the soccermanager people that basically everyone in 866 is from Wem college, only person who I dont think is the United manager, Natasha Dixon but everyone seems to know of her anyways. Think you should write something about Division Three in 866. Going into the last game 5 teams were battling to stay in Division Three and 2 teams were battling to go into Division 2, lucky to say I won the battle for promotion:D Anyways yeh, have a look at 866 ;) The league to be in
