Ideas & Suggested Improvements: Referee Statistics

August 5th, 2008 by SM Dev (ste)

Wouldn’t it be nice to know some facts and figures in relation to the referee who is about to officiate your next match?

Well one of the new improvements which will be developed over the coming months is in relation to referee statistics, and this will give you more facts and figures in relation to the referee who is about to officiate your next match. This is because in real-life you can easily view and obtain data regarding a referees statistics for the season, and this is something which we believe will give managers something extra to think about when selecting their tactics.

The statistics for each referee will build on what we have currently (being their name and nationality), and it could display the following information as well:

  • Real-life name;
  • Date of Birth;
  • Nationality;
  • Strictness rating;
  • Number of matches officiated during current season;
  • Number of yellow cards issued during current season (with average per match);
  • Number of red cards issued during current season (with average per match);
  • Record from past seasons.

A new page would possibly be created called referee statistics or similar, and it would list all of the referees from within your setup. You would then be able to click on any referee to view his real-life data and also statistics from your setup, and then use this to help you decide on your tactics for the match (as this would link in with the future improvement of pre-match analysis).

    y wod u want 2 add ref statics, add sum decent features dat wod attrack more ppl,e.g. player interviews, bein able the watch the match, improving the “match report”, expectations from chairmans, make it more realistic.

    We dont ‘need’ match statistics. What we do need is improved stadium expansions, player interviews, improving match report and other things to make it more realistic. The referee’s dont have tendencies on here e.g. Mike Riley doesnt give out loads of reds, they are all exactly the same. So why do we need statistics?

    i think this would be a good idea.
    Yes better ideas like stadium expansion and player interviews will improve the game.
    But this will help a manager decide what tactics to use
    e.g. aggressive tackling for a lenient ref.
    Or mild tackling for a strict ref.
    All in all a good idea.

    this is a bad idea, because referee’s should manipulate tacticts! What is the point, add something like the other people said, like players wanting to leave for better club, raising wages, etc

    i like it . i know there are better thing s they could be doing but its a good idea and all of you who want other things such as player interviews they will come you just have to wait.

    to be honest whos interested in refs???? unless u can appeal against their decisions….now theres an idea!

    Player interviews? What! There pixels, they hv morale and thats more than enuf for now, i dont want to know wot my virtual people are “thinking”!

    Improvements to stadium building, better tactics and more complicated loans/loan fees are the best improvements.

    i agree with’ listen to me’ apart from the player interviews.

    You should have a rating on how good/bad he is..1 star being awful, 5 stars being great.
    I remember playing a computer game once, and you got to know what referees you didnt want.. there was one in particular that would give out silly yellow cards and send people off for no reason, this would be a good to bring in, as it would be realistic, because there is always a ref that everyone hates…mentioning no names….#cough# Graeme Poll #cough#.

    This is pointless. I honestly couldn’t give a… about who is refereeing my game. I’m more interested in who I’m playing and what tactics they’re using.

    i like it, and all those people saying you should be doing other updates, this isn’t stopping them making those updates infact some are already done

  • 14. dave  |  August 6th, 2008 at 4:13 pm

    actually, we should have a ref. strictness rating so for some refs we just go normal for tackling while others we go agressive

    naaaah bad bad idea it would just lead people to blaming referees and may make the game much more complicated and not neccisarily more realistic. final verdict: no

    referees would be good but being able to watch the match would be the first thing soccermanager should make

    it would be good if we got to appeal against red cards.
    it’s annoying when you go to the match report to find out your player got sent off for sneezing the wrong way.
